if product of slopes r -1 then the two lines r perpendicular we know that but x-axis and y-axis r perpendicular then slopes of the both axes r not equal to -1

While writing the point in Cartesian plane why we write x co ordinate first then y co ordinate next. If there is any reason behind that please guide me.
